Why is there checking in hockey? To separate the man from the puck, not the man from consciousness!
The FIRST CONTACT Checking Clinic has two components:
1. Teach proper body position to protect yourself and learn how to establish the proper angle to take away the opponent’s time and space.
2. Using the proper timing, angling, and positioning to separate the man from the puck.
FIRST CONTACT is held on the XIC Puddle Rink, with four different clinic dates offered to each division:
August 15th, 22nd, 29th, or September 12th. Each clinic will cover the exact same information, sign-up for only one date.
2000 & 2001 Birth years: 2:00-2:30pm - 1998 & 1999 Birth years: 2:30-3:00pm
The clinic costs $5 per player and pre-registration suggested as there is a limit of 8 players per clinic

Rockledge, Florida
April 21, 2010
The South East Junior Hockey League, and in conjunction with the related Metropolitan Junior Hockey League franchises in the south, announce the formation of the South East Youth Hockey League. The league comprised of a number of higher level youth travel programs at the AAA and AA level, will provide advanced players associated with the programs that form the league, the opportunity to compete against players with advanced skills to accelerate player development in an affordable and compelling concept.
League competition will be provided through series of showcase events, attended by the highest level teams from each organization at the Squirt, Peewee, Bantam and Midget Minor level. The league will offer an exceptional level of competition, with all venues within driving distance to avoid airfare and travel costs. Competition will be hosted on certain weekends to avoid the costs associated with participation in traditional independent tournament events and with the goal of limiting interference with attendance for academic purposes.
Showcases are expected to be held monthly at venues including Atlanta, Raleigh, Charlotte, Tampa, and in the East Central Florida coast. At the Bantam and Midget levels, players will be scouted for future junior participation by representatives of the MJHL and SEJHL. Showcase games will be standard length to provide more ice time for attending teams and all games will be carried live on internet broadcast through Fasthockey.com.
The following organizations will comprise the charter members of this elite league:
Atlanta Knights
Charlotte Junior Checkers
East Coast Eagles
Gulf Coast Flames
Palm Beach Blackhawks
Space Coast Hurricanes
The league will commence operations and competition in the fall 2010. The formation of this league is intended to compliment other USAH organized affiliate sponsored leagues and will provide players with the ultimate stage to showcase their talents within the construct of challenging competition and cost efficient programming. posted 03/24/2010 On March 10th, the CMHA wrapped up its final development track practice with the help of USA Hockey representatives, including Ken Martel, the American Development Model (ADM) Director, and Scott Paluch, ADM Manager for the Mid-America and Southeastern districts. Ken and Scott praised both the program itself and the players’ commitment to working hard to improve their skills. “I was amazed at how well organized the program was and how hard the kids participated, especially considering it was the last night of the season,” said Scott, who helped run the practices.
Completing its first season incorporating USA Hockey’s ADM into a dedicated weekly skills practice, the CMHA was proud to offer all players from Mite to Midget, no matter whether they played house, select or travel hockey a development track program appropriate for their age group. The CMHA would like to thank all the coaches who made it possible to provide a low player-to-coach ratio every Wednesday night. That allowed our players to move from station to station to receive high quality instruction and a well-rounded, fundamentally strong program.
Our Mite players enjoyed an extra treat on the final Wednesday night of the development program. After their practice, the CMHA presented each player with a medal to commemorate the end of the season. “We loved being on the ice with the CMHA players. It was great to see Mite players as young as five having as much fun skating as the older players,” said Ken. “Congratulations to the CMHA and all its players on a fine season and for helping to build the sport of hockey in the Charlotte area.”
